Dr. Van Wyck completed his medical school training and Plastic Surgery residency at the University of Western Ontario, in London Ontario. He subsequently completed a registered Plastic Surgery Fellowship at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto as well as at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota before commencing his practice in Ottawa in 1988. During his fellowship training he received a Certificate of Merit from the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASPRS) for his efforts in research .

Dr. Van Wyck remains a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as a member of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the Canadian Society of Aesthetic Surgeons and the American Society of Aesthetic Surgeons.

Since his appointment in 1988, as an Assistant Professor at the University of Ottawa and as previous Acting Chief of the Division in Plastic Surgery at the Civic Hospital, his interests have been directed towards the cosmetic surgery side of his Plastic Surgery specialty. This focus demands that he maintain ongoing educational exposure in the form of meetings and courses. He recently completed a preceptorship in anatomical breast augmentation surgery in Stockholm Sweden. New advances in the form of laser technology and skin care management as well as variations in surgical procedures continue to evolve in his efforts to improve surgical outcomes. Body contouring in the form of Ultrasonic liposuction and Velashape technology, Breast enhancement and Facial surgical procedures as well as his Advanced Skin Care Clinic encompass the majority of his practice. Most cosmetic cases are performed in one of two private surgical clinics in Ottawa.

Breast augmentation is the most common and in general one of the most gratifying cosmetic procedures performed by Dr Van Wyck. An improvement in implant manufacturing and the increase in acceptance of cohesive gel implants have helped change the sugical results with this procedure. There has recently been a shift in achieving results which appear more natural in overall appearance. These types of results have been achieved by using implants which are anatomical or tear drop in shape as well as selecting implants which are more in keeping with each patients specific chest wall measurements. Dr Van Wyck has just recently returned from Stockholm Sweden having completed a preceptorship centred around the use of the textured anatomical implants. Although implants have a high rate of patient satisfaction there are a variety of issues which need to be discussed with Dr Van Wyck prior to proceeding with surgery. During your consultation all potential risks and expectations will be reviewed in detail.
