I have overs, I went back to work after 4 days, it was to an office job with no lifting. I was very sore and it took a good 2 weeks to feel back to normal. _________________ PLEASE MENTION CANADABA.CA WHEN ON CONSULTATIONS! |

I have unders and I went back to work 13 (I'm pretty sure) days after surgery. It was a new job I was starting and that was the start date, but I was glad for the time difference. I was still somewhat sore and stiff, but couldn't imagine working earlier. _________________ Surgery date: Nov. 2/2004

I voted over one week, as I went back to work just before two weeks, but could have gone at 10 days or so (lifting and reaching involved at that time) _________________ My Before & Afters:

I voted 5-7 days although I did take 2 weeks off from work. I easily could have gone back to work after one week with my overs. Was off my pain meds by day 2 so I had a nice easy recovery. _________________ 40 / 5'3 / 120 lbs

I'm a stay at home mom. I was out and about on day 4 and had to drive a tiny bit which was NOT pleasant. My DH left the country a week after surgery so I had no choice but to be up and running by then. _________________

I voted over one week because that is how many days I booked off. I went back to work on day 9 which was great. I could have gone back to work by day 7 for sure but Im glad I had the extra time off. I had unders as well. My advice to anyone getting unders is to take at least a full week off.

I have unders. I had surgery Wednesday and went back to work Monday - office job.
Hard to concentrate, I was tired easily and very sore & stiff. Doable but I definitely needed two weeks. _________________ 31 yrs / 5'8" / 137 lbs

Just wondering if there any nurses here on the board?
I am not sure if I will be ok to go back at 2 weeks. I may have to lift patient's, sometimes over 100lbs and have to rely on driving.
Mabe I should take 3 weeks with 4-6 weeks of no heavy lifting restrictions to just be on the safe side. what do you all think? _________________ 28 yrs, 5'71/2'', 148lbs

i'm no nurse but I definitely think you should try not to 'lift' anything heavy like that. Even after 1 month post BA, I couldn't lift a 12 lb Turkey, you don't want to risk pulling anything. Even if I hold groceries for awhile I can start to feel a little aching by my armpit.
Driving for me was between that 3 week - 1 month too, I just found turning the steering wheel was a bit difficult.
If it is possible and you can take the time off, take it. But who knows maybe I'm just a weakling and you may be able to handle more. _________________ 31 yrs / 5'8" / 137 lbs

I absolutely think you should avoid lifting patients for at least 6 weeks...Its definitely not a good idea because 100 pounds is extremely heavy. The fact that youre getting unders makes it a big big no no for sure. Can you avoid it for that long?
I drove on Day 4 or Day 5 only because I had no other choice...I still am very careful when making turns in my car. I say driving is ok around a week or so post op if you can avoid it for that long.

Thanks for all you tips ladies!
I have decided (with the help of my PS), that I will take 3 weeks off with no heavy lifting >10lbs for a 4-6 weeks post op. I want to be on the safe side. Even my supply bag is about 25lbs, and I carry that everyday. _________________ 28 yrs, 5'71/2'', 148lbs

I was back at school and work by day 5 (surgery on Wednesday afternoon, work on Monday) I did get tired quicker than usual and it was not a good idea to be walking around the office so much (all the bouncing had me sore by the end of the day). I've been working my desk job and doing my night classes ever since and the fatigue has been getting better every day!
I'm at 2 weeks now and I feel 100% now so it would have been ideal to start back at this point, but 5 days of recovery was doable for me...only the days 2 & 3 were the tough stay-in-bed ones _________________ Stats: 5'4", 135 lbs

I think I'm most worried about driving to and from work. It takes me about 35 mins each way and I'm worried that I won't be a 100% when I start work 6 days after surgery. The prescription I'm taking is supposed to make me drowsy, dizzy and cause a headache. I have to take 4 a day for a week, so I'll be taking them for 2 days while at work. I might as well drive drunk! lol jk _________________ Age: 26 Yrs

I had talked to my doctor and he said that after surgery I should be back. to work in about 2 weeks. After reading all of this and searching on the internet I dont think he quite understands what a health care aide does. I do lifts and transfers of people 200lbs + and have a few unpredictable patients. I'm not sure if 2 weeks will be long enough? any thoughts? |

I had my BA done on May 10th and was back to work today, May 17th. (I just have a desk job). I could have gone back to work on day 5 if I really had to. _________________

Normally it takes 5 to 8 days to go back to your work. If you have heavy lifting or something like a firefighter with possible intense lifting, the more time you take, the better it is. An office job, no lifting, no real physical labor, less time is required according to my surgeon. _________________ http://www.cosmeticare.com/plastic-surgery/breast-augmentation.html |
